Safety is key when using Heavy Equipment. Here are some things 'to do's' for safely operating compaction rollers:

Do a walk-around
Walk around the machine and look for anything abnormal before loading or unloading. Things to look for include:

  • Damage
  • Fluid Leaks
  • Deflated tires
  • Unsecured hood, access panels, doors, and windows
  • Unsecured fluid caps
  • Water tanks have not been drained

Load and Unload safely
Taking precautions when loading and unloading compaction equipment can help prevent accidents. Keep in mind the following actions you can take for safer loading and unloading:

  • Confirm that the truck and trailer are level before loading.
  • Removing all debris from the deck of the trailer before moving equipment.
  • Use rubber mats for traction when driving a steel roller onto a metal deck.
  • Positioning the roller so that it can be driven straight on and straight off the trailer/rollback.
  • Keep the roller a safe distance from the edges of the deck.
  • Use a spotter (if needed).
  • Use the winch on the truck/trailer (if necessary).

Most importantly, if you don’t know how to operate the machine, Klochko Equipment has experienced equipment operators available.
