Klochko Equipment Promotes Construction Careers for Young Women

In its 4th year, the Mentoring A Girl In Construction (MAGIC) summer camp was held in mid July. This camp is sponsored by the NAWIC Detroit Chapter # 183 and is held on the Farmington Hills campus of Oakland Community College. The camp encourages girls to think outside the box by considering construction as a career path. The 17 high school girls learned the basic skills of carpentry, electrical, plumbing and welding during the week long camp.

On Friday the emphasis is placed on equipment operation and Klochko Equipment supplied a Wacker Neuson loader and mini excavator for the girls to have a "hands on" experience. Four representatives from the Operators Union, # 324 were on site to instruct the campers in equipment operation and to encourage them to consider a career as an Operating Engineer.

At the end of the day a reception for the girls and their families is held on the campus and during the reception the girls have an opportunity to comment on the activities they enjoyed the most. Operating the equipment supplied by Klochko is one of their favorites. Klochko Equipment was given a Certificate of Appreciation from NAWIC and OCC. for their support and sponsorship of this event.
